Ugh: Food Labeling

<begin rant>

This kind of shit just makes me sick (not the I-just-drank-a-bunch-of-puss-covered-utter-rBST-laden-milk sick, more the I-can’t-believe-this-is-happening sick). Basically its a post about how the “agricultural company,” Monsanto, is trying to push through some state legislation so that dairies can’t label their food “hormone-free.” From the Consumerist post, the reason being “[b]ecause milk can’t be tested for the presence of growth hormone, dairies like Shatto’s couldn’t represent their products as hormone-free in Kansas, even if they had mountains of proof that their cows weren’t injected with growth hormone.”

I’m going to sound like an grumpy old man right here, but has the whole world gone to pot? Why shouldn’t dairies be allowed to label their milk as “hormone-free” or “rBST-free” if its true? What harm comes from that? If they have “mountains of proof” that their cows don’t have hormones or steroids, or whatever crap they inject into cows, why can’t they label it as such? And this is probably a bit naïveté on my part, but why is Monsanto allowed to try and get this passed?

I don’t get it.

Thanks y’all

So Thanksgiving is Thursday. Wahoo! I can’t wait to eat all of that food. My favorite dish has got to be the mashed potatoes. Turkey and cranberry sauce are close seconds. And I’m not talking about the crap you get in a can that stays in the shape of the can. I’m talking about homemade cranberry sauce. The good stuff.

We’re going to my dad’s place on Thursday and this will be our first holiday as husband and wife. Cool, huh? Anyhoo, holidays are fun at my dad’s, especially when Felicia’s parents are around. Her dad, Gary, is the ultimate storyteller. Seriously, you can’t shut him up the entire afternoon. Luckily, the stories he tells are amusing, otherwise it would make for a lonnnggg day.

This will also be the first big holiday besides the 4th of July (I think) that Jackie will have spent with my side of the family. Correct me if I’m wrong Jackie. So it should be a hoot..Just like every other day of my life with my newly wedded wife.

Okay, enough lovey-dovey crap. Seriously folks, the football games should be good, especially if the Jets play like they did this last Sunday. Well, maybe Atlanta will actually show up to the game, if not, that’ll be a stupid game..Okay, so the only good game is the Green Bay/Detroit game. That’ll be fun. Unfortunately its in a dome and not in the freezing-ass cold Green Bay.

Anyways.. I’m done blabbering. What’s your favorite part of Thanksgiving? What’s your take on the days football festivities?

Have a great holiday weekend and remember.. you can’t choose your family!

It’s Really Happening

Who will be “that guy”All of our family and friends are starting to roll into town. Which can mean only one thing: It’s really happening. All of the planning and organizing is actually becoming reality now and Jackie and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. As excited as we are to get married, it’ll be nice to not have to plan a wedding anymore. We are really getting psyched about seeing all of our closest family and friends and hope that you all have a great time.

Wedding Thoughts

So our wedding is one week from today and everything is falling into place. And believe me, I’m very happy and excited about it, but this whole event has got me thinking. The wedding industry is just a big sham. DJ’s, Florists, Caterers, Wedding planners and the like are all ridiculously priced but “necessary” to have a wedding. Granted you need some sort of entertainment, decorations, food and organization for a wedding to be fun, but the outrageous prices that come about as soon as you say the word “wedding” are completely baffling. Bachelorette Party

Well, Jackie is off to her bachelorette party for the weekend and you know what that means? No adult supervision for THREE DAYS! Oh man, this is going to be awesome. I’m totally going to eat Red Baron pizzas and drink nothing but KoolAid and beer all weekend. It’s gonna be so awesome. You know you’re all jealous. If you want to, you’re more than welcome to join me.. Just give me a heads up.

Actually, tonight I’m going to play some poker with the “Klingerman’s” and tomorrow I have some chores around the house to take care of and then Sunday is football and emergency clean-up duty before Jackie gets home. So if you see the house this weekend, please don’t say anything to Jackie..

Wedding Mode

Alright, so the wedding is 2 months away and now that we’ve finally moved to Chico we are getting in full-on wedding mode. We need to finalize the invitations and a DJ. Find and buy wedding rings. Finish getting decorations. Figure out what I’m going to wear (unless you want me to show up in my speedo’s). Jackie still needs to get her dress (see speedo comment). ( Read more )

OJB’s

I have looked far and wide on this series of tubes for anybody that mention the ever-classy OJB. And to no avail. I’ve found Special Sprites, though not the one we all know and love, but no OJB. Seriously folks, where’s the chatter? It’s only the best start to a day destined to be filled with hours and hours of football. How can their not be any chatter about the poor man’s mimosa? Is there anybody out there?

Hey peeps! So we’re crossing our fingers that we get this house we’ve been looking at. We found it 2 weeks ago and now tomorrow morning I think the last hoop that we have to jump through is to introduce Madison to the home-owner and the manager of the property management company. Now if you’ve met Madison, you know that she is the sweetest dog and has never once hurt anybody, so we’re not worried about Madison so much as we are about the property management lady. I’m not going to name the company just yet only because I’m going to wait a while until after we actually move in and get settled. But if you talk to me in person, I’m more than willing to spill my guts. But anyhoo.. ( Read more )

Busy Beaver

So this week was pretty hectic. I started work in Chico on Wednesday and feel like I’ve been on the go ever since. I’m pretty excited about my new job. The people in the marketing department are really nice and they have a lot of cool things going on.

We’re still on the look-out for a place to live and Jackie and I are going to check out a place on Monday morning. Cross your fingers for us! ( Read more )

Me Hungry.

This weekend, Jackie and I will be making the trek up to Chico. Our mouths are already watering as we are having a tasting at The Black Crow. Now, now, don’t get worried that our wedding is going to be “all fancy” or anything. We’re probably just going to do a bunch of appetizers (We’re going to be wearing flip-flops people!). We got a quote for a whole sit-down meal, and we definitely won’t be doing that (at least through the Black Crow). On a side note, I’m hungry right now and all we have for breakfast is oatmeal. God, I can’t wait until Saturday.
