<begin rant>
This kind of shit just makes me sick (not the I-just-drank-a-bunch-of-puss-covered-utter-rBST-laden-milk sick, more the I-can’t-believe-this-is-happening sick). Basically its a post about how the “agricultural company,” Monsanto, is trying to push through some state legislation so that dairies can’t label their food “hormone-free.” From the Consumerist post, the reason being “[b]ecause milk can’t be tested for the presence of growth hormone, dairies like Shatto’s couldn’t represent their products as hormone-free in Kansas, even if they had mountains of proof that their cows weren’t injected with growth hormone.”
I’m going to sound like an grumpy old man right here, but has the whole world gone to pot? Why shouldn’t dairies be allowed to label their milk as “hormone-free” or “rBST-free” if its true? What harm comes from that? If they have “mountains of proof” that their cows don’t have hormones or steroids, or whatever crap they inject into cows, why can’t they label it as such? And this is probably a bit naïveté on my part, but why is Monsanto allowed to try and get this passed?
I don’t get it.
